Has anyone tried alternate day fasting diet?

Question by WHO: Has anyone tried alternate day fasting diet?
I’m interested. You basically eat whatever you want on your “on day” and your “off day” you eat little to nothing. It’s like you eat every other day. Studies have shown that rats and many other animals have increase their lifespan about 40% and also decrease risk for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

it only works if you are completely aware of your caloric intake. otherwise, you overeat on the off days. you are not a rat. you have to have complete control over your caloric intake.

    Try resveratrol
How Resveratrol help you in weight loss? By mimicking certain aspects of the Mediterranean diet.Studies have shown that part of America’s war with weight lies in the uniquely modern American combination of stressful lifestyle and fast-food consumption, and that the Mediterranean diet and lifestyle seem to be more conducive to healthier weight levels and longevity.

Intermittent fasting is a great way to eat healthy, but you must do it right!! On the day you eat you must still eat healthy foods or you will not see the benefit you want.

Please, if you are going to do this, do some research on it first! Many people use intermittent fasting “the right way” and find great improvements in their health and weight. But do not think that you can eat all the junk food you want on your eating day and get healthy! You may loose a little weight, but it won’t be much and it certainly won’t be healthy weight loss.

If you are hungry you should also break your fast and eat! This is an indicator that you are not ready to fast or your diet is so bad that you can’t go without food for long (high carb, low fat and protein diets usually require people eat every 3-4 hours!). If you find you can’t continue the fast, try several days of a higher protein, low carbohydrate and high fat diet.

What many do when fasting, and it’s easier to tolerate, is just eat one meal per day. They usually set a “window” when they can eat (usually dinnertime) and when that window is closed they don’t eat again until the next day. So this person would eat dinner between 6-8P, then eat nothing until the next day. Another way is to fast for 24h then eat for 24h, but start and end your fast at dinnertime. So your fast starts at 5p, then you fast until 5p the next day and continue with regular meals until 5p when you stop eating again. This may be easier because you are sleeping a good portion of you fast.

The science behind fasting is iffy. They have found that health markers (fasting blood glucose, lipids, etc) are improved in those that fast regularly, but there is little or no indication that it actually increases your life span. The differences could be because of the foods people eat when non-fasting, or it could be there there really is no benefit.

Following a “primal” type diet (See Mark’s Daily Apple) along with intermittent fasting is probably the best way to go. Many primal eaters use fasting as they feel pre-agriculture man probably had fasts along with his feasts!

But be sure you are healthy and if you take any medications get your doctor’s approval!
